GTA V Multiplayer!
Rockstar Games have confirmed GTA 5 will include Multiplayer. Other than that confirmation, no further details have been released - aside from saying it will be amazing.
What We Can Expect
The regular/generic multiplayer modes will probably make a return, such as:- Free Mode
- Deathmatch
- Team Deathmatch
- Race iGTA5
- GTA Race
Free Mode and Online Mini Games
It appears that GTA V's Free Mode will indeed be similar to Red Dead Redemption's. From the short clip at the end of the first gameplay trailer, we can see icons on the radar/mini-map for bicycle races, car races, BASE Jumping, and an unknown star icon. Little check marks on the icons likely denote ones that have been completed. There's also a chance Rockstar learned from fans wishes with Red Dead Redemption and included mini-games like poker in online play. If this was implemented in GTA IV it would have been the equivellant to playing bowling or pool with someone over the internet.iGTA5
Possible New Online Modes
The inclusion of planes, and particularly fighter jets could lead to some exciting new online modes. Imagine a dog-fight above Los Santos by a pair of fighter jets? A game mode could include one person trying to stay alive as long as possible while flying away from everyone else in fighter jets. There's also the possibility of jet-ski races on the water.Co-Op
In an interview with Dan Houser, IGN was able to confirm that co-op would not be in GTA V's story. It would be impossible to do that and keep the level of precision we've got in this. You could make a great co-op game, but we felt that we're doing other bits of our multiplayer that will fulfill those desires in ways we think are very fun.
No single-console co-op. No splitscreen. iGTA5
Online multiplayer will definitely have some cooperative modes - likely heist missions to coincide with the singleplayer story. There could be numerous small heist missions across the map in Free Mode similar to Gang Hideouts in Red Dead Redemption.
Crews, Vendettas, and Feuds
Revealed in an IGN interview, Max Payne 3 and future titles from Rockstar including GTA V will be using crews among other features. Crews are essentially clans (or posses in the case of Red Dead Redemption) which can be formed privately or public. They will likely have visible custom emblems worn on their equipment to show what crew they belong to. Players can join up to 5 different crews.iGTA5If you get killed twice by another player, you can start a vendetta against that player which is made known to everyone. A special X marks them and killing them will earn you more XP. If they kill you, though, they get the bonus XP. Feuds are vendettas between crews. Even when you are in a game with random people, if someone in a rival feuding crew is on the other team then your past feuds will become an objective in this match. You'll get bonus XP for killing them and they'll also count towards your crew feud.
Rockstar will be continuing to integrate the Social Club to track stats including what crews are feuding with who and which crew is winning. This will greatly improve competitiveness during matches - even if you don't plan on it happening. Crews will also persist from game to game so crews in Max Payne 3 will carry over to GTA V. Note: The crew system and features may change from Max Payne 3 to Grand Theft Auto V but take this as an overview of what to expect.
